Oscar Dubois

Engineer

Since finishing my engineering degree, I have worked part-time as an electro-mechanical engineer for a research team at Imperial College London. The team is conducting vestibular neurology experiments, for those with Parkinson's and dementia. My role involves designing, building, and repairing equipment for the experiments, focused on recording data from vestibular-ocular senses. I also worked on bespoke repair solutions for legacy mechanical equipment with no spare parts available.

During the pandemic I supported a school on navigating applications which transitioned the school to online teaching and in enabling the school to operate efficiently and resiliently in that environment. Being involved with the education sector has taught me a lot about the need for client orientated practical solutions and enabling outcomes rather than being a technology purist. I learned a lot being a teacher and relating to children, who are very demanding customers.

I am now looking to develop more and to expand my horizons in other applied areas. I believe that I have the right balance of technical skill (engineering a system that people will find useful) and human relational capabilities to make a strong contribution to a good team.
